Monty Layne Daniels

Monty Layne Daniels, 65, of Waverly, Ohio entered Heaven on December 6, 2025 at 2:30 p.m. to what we are sure was a joyous family reunion.
Monty was born April 17, 1960, in Chillicothe, Ohio, the son of John and the late Freda (Shepherd) Daniels. On January 31, 1991, he was united in marriage to Jacqueline (Rice) Daniels, who survives.
He is also survived by two stepsons, Bryon (Beth) Craig and Garrett (Brandy) Craig; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mark Daniels and Matt (Pam) Daniels; sister, Marianne (Doug) Lambert; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and in-laws, James and Patricia Rice.
Monty was an employee at Kenworth Truck Company in Chillicothe, Ohio. He was a 1978 graduate of Western High School and on December 10, 2022 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame for his track and field achievements. On November 26, 2023,
Monty joined Mary Chapel United Baptist Church and on May 25, 2025, he was baptized.
Monty enjoyed shopping at flea markets and junk stores, looking for old tools. He had a passion for raising livestock and working with horses and did so alongside his brothers. But what he loved most of all was his grandchildren. Spending time with them was the highlight of his life. Monty was known for his contagious smile and fantastic curly hair.
Going Home Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 12, 2025 at Boyer Funeral Home with Matthew Daniels, Therman Rigsby, and Keith Maynard officiating. Burial will follow in Gardner Cemetery, Waverly, Ohio.
Family will receive friends 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 11, 2025 and one hour prior to the service on Friday.
