Moody Elton Munford

Franklin – Moody Elton Munford, 90, passed away December 16, 2025 in Courtland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Born and raised in Sedley, he was a son of the late Moody Alfred Munford, Jr. and Mary McClenny Munford. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Margie Umphlett Munford and his second wife, June Squires Munford, and his brother, Morgan Crosby Munford.

Moody was a graduate of Courtland High School and served in the US Army. He was a past member of Sedley Vol. Fire Dept., Sedley Ruritan Club, Sedley Hunt Club, Manry Hunt Club, Franklin Moose Lodge, Courtland Masonic Lodge #85 AF&AM, and Suffolk Moose Lodge. Moody was a member of Sedley Baptist Church.

Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Louis Alfred "Al" Munford (Vickie) and Stephen Lee Munford (Debbie); June's children, Kevin Squires (Amy), Keith Squires (Ann), and Becky Leach (Danny); three grandchildren, Terri Wills (Will), Daniel James (Kristy), and Steven Fowler; two great grandchildren, Jax James and Cole Wills; sisters-in-law, Joan Munford, Becky Kitchen (Wayne), Iris Peden (Willard), Joyce Ruhser, and Carol Davis; a brother-in-law, Jimmy Swanner (Linda); and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2PM Sunday, December 21, 2025 in Wright Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Rosemont Cemetery Association, c/o Mildred Branche, 32306 Vicksville Rd., Franklin, VA 23851. The family would like to thank the staff at Southampton Memorial Hospital, Norfolk General Trauma Unit, and Courtland Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness shown during this time.
