James Charlie Stephens, surrounded by loved ones, entered into heaven on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the age of 84.

He leaves a legacy through his wife of 56 years, Patsy (Pat) Stephens; daughter Julie Stephens Immanuel (Andrew) of Guam; son Charles Paul Stephens (Andrea) of Bethune; and eight grandchildren: Samuel Immanuel, Rachel Stephens Wise (Kaleb), Nathanael Immanuel, Anna Grace Stephens, CJ Stephens, Uriah Immanuel, Malachi Immanuel, and Eva Stephens.

He is also survived by his brother Fred Stephens (Lynn), sister Libby Catoe (Marvin), and sister-in-law Cheryl Stephens, all of Bethune, South Carolina.

He was preceded in death by his mother Marguerite McCaskill Stephens, father Plummer Stephens, brothers Billy Stephens (Shirleen), Johnny Marion Stephens, Glenn Stephens, and sister Barbara Ann Stephens Curry (Lane).

Charlie enjoyed fishing, hunting, serving Jesus Christ, and fellowshipping at Grace Bible Church.

Charlie was the owner and contractor of Stephens Construction and Realty Company, Inc.

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice of Sumter—Candice Hinson, RN, Andrea Harvin, CNA, and Karen Yates, RN—for their compassionate care, as well as Erika Holloman and Ora Lee Blair of RetireEase Senior Care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Bible Church, PO Box 2196, Camden, SC 29020.

The funeral service will be held at Bethune Baptist Church on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 11:00 AM in Bethune, South Carolina. A public viewing will occur the hour prior to the service. Immediately following the service, a graveside committal will take place at the Charlie Stephens Family Cemetery, 2684 Stephens Road, Bethune, South Carolina, with fellowship immediately following.

Pastor Andrew Immanuel will officiate the service, and the eulogy will be given by Sammy Immanuel.
