Ms. Ms. Marlene C. Coleman

Marlene Christine (Doss) Coleman, 43, was called home on July 14, 2025 at

Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the wife of Kelvin

Coleman, they shared a total of 13 years together with 6 of those years

married.

Marlene was born December 17,1981, she was the daughter of mother; Linda

Richardson (Doss), birth father; Richard Garner, and step father; Calvin

Richardson. She attended Joliet Central High School. Marlene gave 7 years of

working battered children at the Newhouse Battered Women's Shelter. She

also worked as a caregiver at Home Instead, where she helped individuals

with their personal needs.

Marlene was a member of the Thickalicious Divas social group, she created

meaningful friendships. She enjoyed going out and having a good time,

spending quality time with her family and trying new things. She always

made sure she supported everyone in everything they wanted to do. Marlene

loved to look and feel good, listening to music, dancing, and a good Blue MF.

Sometime in November 2023, Marlene discovered a lump in her left breast and

decided to seek medical attention. After ultrasounds and tests were ran, she was

then informed that the tumor was 8cm and cancerous. December 2023, Marlene was

diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. Marlene shared the news with her family

and her feelings of how she was nervous and scared to start the process and new journey

of her life, but she was ready to fight either way. She then began chemotherapy in February 2024.

Chemotherapy made Marlene very tired and weak at times but she continued to fight

and push through treatments. Marlene completed chemotherapy and rang the bell on August 1, 2024

and the tumor had shrank to 3cm. Radiation treatments began November 25, 2024, she was very

scared and nervous but she still didn't let that stop her fight. After she completed radiation treatments,

surgery was done to attempt to remove the tumor, but due to the tumor being so close to her heart,

so the doctors did their best to get as much as they could. Doctors then decided that a little more

chemotherapy was needed, which she began on February 4, 2025.

It was during this time it was discovered that Marlene's cancer had spread to her brain, lungs and live

and was at stage 4. Marlene started to feel more sick and weaker, her visits to the hospital became

more frequent, she had to have a few blood trans fusions. From May 2025 to July Marlene spent

a lot of time in the hospital, doctors ran more tests and discovered her cancer had spread even

more to her kidneys, stomach and bones and at this point there was no way to cure her cancer

During the last few weeks of Marlene's life she had slowly became nonverbal and difficult to

understand. But she communicated as much and as best as she could with her family.

Marlene left this world a fighter, warrior, believer! She fought the hardest and best she could

to beat the cancer, it was just a battle she couldn't beat. But we all know who she was before

the cancer and during the cancer and she never let it change who she was. Marlene will always

be remembered for her strength and efforts she put up to try and get through her cancer journey.

Marlene is preceded in death by her birth father; Richard Garner, daughter; Donmonique Hughlon,

a nephew and a list of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Marlene is survived by husband; Kelvin Coleman, daughters, JaNiah Devers and DonVeonna Hughlon,

sons, Jason Devers Jr and DonEl Hughlon Jr. (Adrianna) , granddaughters, Harmoni Logan and Amira Hughlon;

mother, Linda Richardson, step-father, Calvin Richardson, brother, Richard Doss (Tenesha),

sisters; Jasmine (Marcus) Trimble and Aundrea Richardson; 7 nieces and 5 nephews and

a list of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services Saturday, August 2, at 2:00pm at Watkins Heritage Chapel. Private Disposition.

Visitation 1:00pm -2:00pm at the chapel. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons. Condolences
