Obituary of Muriel A. Busa
Muriel Busa of Burlington, formerly of Lexington, Dorchester, and Winchester, passed peacefully on Sunday morning, May 26, 2024. She was 89 years old. Muriel was born, raised, and educated in Dorchester. She was the only child born to Mary and William Wiss. After high school and before marriage she had worked several accounting jobs including one with American Airlines. Working for the airlines she had the luxury of planning fun destination weekend trips with her girlfriends, with little to no worry in the world other than what was to eat and a place to stay. This was a very memorable and cherished time of her life.
She married Frank J Busa, and they settled in Lexington, having two children, Russell, and Laura. Their marriage lasted 26 years before they had decided to separate and ultimately divorce. Muriel and Frank always remained respectful and caring towards one another up until Frank's passing in 2016. It was important to both Frank and Muriel to maintain their friendship over the years, from simply grabbing a coffee, to acknowledging each other on important days such as their birthdays and all holidays.
Muriel was a woman with a spirit that was larger than life and had an energy that filled every room she walked into. A busy body at heart, there was not a day that passed without some sort of agenda or routine that kept her busy. She volunteered at the Burlington Town Hall working for the Town Clerk's office. She loved her volunteer work so much that during the Pandemic the clerk's office would drop off work to her at home and she would put in about 20 hours a week. Volunteering at the Gift Shop at the New England Rehabilitation Center Muriel made prayer shawls that she would give to patients at the Winchester Hospital. She made bead bracelets that helped relieve her arthritis pain, these bracelets were given to friends or anyone in need as well. Muriel had a close circle of several friends that would go out to dinner, socialize, and travel. Visiting Canada, Florida, and her favorite destination, Bermuda. Muriel and the girls would also go line dancing as much as four times a week. When the girls were together it was guaranteed to be filled with fun, laughter, and cherished memories.
Muriel loved to read and visited the Burlington Public Library every week selecting new books, sometimes finishing multiple in one week. Mornings she made sure to take in slowly as she enjoyed waking up to her birds outside her living room window. Those birds never missed a meal. A very special friend that kept her company day in and day out was Maisy the household cat. She always knew the best treats were downstairs. She loved taking friends and loved ones to dinner treating at her favorites like Friendlys, Unos, Bickfords, and most of all Bertucci's. Muriel had an immense love for sports, especially the Patriots and Red Sox, making sure to never miss a game and welcoming anyone to watch it with her. Muriel loved taking routine nightly walks at Wildwood Park or simply around her neighborhood. She was a devout Catholic and faithful parishioner at St. Malachy Church. She taught religious education classes when her children were young. Muriel was very involved in her children and grandchildren's lives. A pillar of support from standing in the stands for their sports, to educational activities, and being involved in each of their interests. Muriel lived a wonderful life that was centered around her family, friends, and faith. She appreciated the simpler things in life and was always the first to ask about your day. She will be lovingly remembered by all.
Muriel was the loving mother of Russell Busa of Burlington and Laura Buzzell of Woburn. She was the proud grandmother of Amanda McArdle & her husband Kyle McArdle, Tricia McArdle, and Corey Buzzell. She was the great grandmother of Mason.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Malachy Church in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronicama.org, 99 Bedford St., Burlington on Saturday, June 1. at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers memorials in Muriel's name may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. For online guestbook and video tribute see www.sullivanfuneralhome.net. Arrangements by the Edward V.
