Muriel J. Johnson, age 89, passed away on September 4, 2025, at her home in Corbin, Kentucky. She was an example of faith, love, and generosity. Muriel's kindness left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Muriel was born on October 12, 1935, in Corbin, Kentucky. Her dedication was evident in her professional life as a social worker and in her personal life as a follower of Christ. She was a founding member of the 20th St. Baptist Church and her faith was the cornerstone of her life. An avid cat lover, Muriel was also a dedicated animal activist, nurturing not only people but all of God's creatures. Music was also a significant part of her life. She played the piano for her church for many years.
She is survived by her sons, Ron (Carol) Johnson and Danny (Nadine) Johnson, 9 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great-Grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Johnson, her parents Archie and Nora Jones, her children J. Earl Johnson Jr., Tereasa Smith, and Lisa Baxter, her sister Janice Hacker, her grandson Keith Johnson and a nephew Ricky Hacker. Muriel is also survived by a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends, who will miss her greatly.
Visitation for Muriel will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home in Corbin, Kentucky. Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Greg McClain will officiate. Entombment will follow the service in Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin.
