Muriel LaFontaine Obituary
Muriel L. (Rouette) LaFontaine, 92, of Forestdale, died unexpectedly, but peacefully in her home November 12, 2025. She was the wife of the late Charles R. LaFontaine, whom she married September 6, 1952. Born in Woonsocket, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Louise (Girouard) Rouette.
Muriel worked as the assistant director of the American Red Cross Chapter in Woonsocket for 10 years, then as a budget technician for the U.S. Small Business Administration in Providence for 15 years. She was a communicant and lector at St. John the Evangelist Church, Slatersville, and a member of its Ladies' Prayer Group for over 40 years. Muriel was an English scholar who was very well versed in the English language. The Director of SBA would always call out..."Muriel how do you spell...!!!
Muriel will be remembered for her kind heart, infectious smile, and wonderful sense of humor - (she loved comics and would always send you the ones that were appropriate for you at the time). Muriel loved to eat good food and had a very robust sweet tooth.
Muriel was a very faith filled Christian. Muriel and her husband Charlie completed a 3- year seminar called the Life in the Spirit Seminar in Narragansett that they were very proud of which created the catalyst for her journey deep into her faith. She would try to wear out rosary beads on a daily basis.
She leaves her children, David C. LaFontaine and his wife, Lynn of North Smithfield, Peter S. LaFontaine and his wife, Karen, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Charlene L. Szczepanek and her husband, Stanley, of Rehoboth, MA, Karen A. Sutcliffe and her husband, Gordon "Cooky" of Cumberland and Paula A. Ryfa and her husband, Erik of Cumberland; her brother, Roger Rouette of Prescott, AZ; twelve grandchildren, Christopher LaFontaine and his wife, Justine; Andrew LaFontaine and his wife, Sarah; Nicholas Glynn and his wife Melissa, Brian LaFontaine; Nicholas Szczepanek and his wife Ashley, Kelly Szczepanek Forbes and her husband, Cote; Matthew Sutcliffe; Kyle Sutcliffe and his wife Michelle; Margaret Mae Cahill; Abigail Cahill and her husband Arin Gerald; and Grace Ryfa; nine great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandson, Ryan Kenneth Sutcliffe; three siblings, Norman and Marcel Rouette and Jeannette Desplaines.
Her funeral will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025 with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 63 Church St., Slatersville, or may be viewed live at https://client.tribucast.com/tcid/a25117016314734 Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
