Muriel Lea Lystad

A Memorial Service for Muriel Lystad of Baudette, MN, will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Pitt Community Church in Pitt, MN. Visitation will be held a half-hour prior to the service.
It is with loving hearts and cherished memories that the family of Muriel Lea Lystad (Garrett) announces her passing on November 2, 2025, at the age of 90.
Muriel was born to Herbert and Helen (Beaver) Garrett on February 12, 1935, in Leroy, Kansas. She attended high school in Burlington, Kansas, and later completed one year of secretarial school.
Muriel was first united in marriage to Robert Lilley in Wichita, Kansas, and to this union three sons were born - Darrell, Robert, and Kenneth. Later, she married Andrew Lystad in Baudette, Minnesota, and together they shared 26 wonderful years of marriage.
Muriel worked hard throughout her life, holding various positions as a waitress and cook, and was employed at Pioneer Nursing Home, and retired from Lakewood Care Center, after a brief retirement starting at McDonald's. She was known for her kindness, reliability, and friendly smile that brightened the day of everyone she met.
She enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, puzzles, and word searches, and she especially loved playing bingo. A woman of faith, Muriel was a devoted member of Pitt Community Church, where she found strength, joy, and fellowship.
Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Helen Garrett; her siblings Betty (Bennie) Johnson, Ruth (Charles) Huff, and Herbert (Colleen) Garrett; her husbands Robert Lilley and Andrew Lystad; her son Kenneth Lilley; and her brothers-in-law Ronald Berg, and Richard Nordgren.
She is survived by her sons Darrell (Janice) Lilley and Robert (Betty) Lilley; and her stepchildren Daniel (Judy) Lystad, Neomie (Sonny) Heddan, Delilah (Bert) Wieser, Neil Lystad, Philip Lystad, Mary (Albert) Albrecht, Martha (Carter Novacek) Lystad, Mark (Beth) Lystad, Lily Berg, and Anna Nordgren.
Her grandchildren include Kyle Lilley, Sam (Thandi) Lilley, Robert (Betsy) Lilley, Trevor Lilley, Brad (Stephanie) Lilley, Taunya Plutko, Heath Lystad, Nichole Keenan, Edward Albrecht, Crystal Bender, Winston Novacek, Brigitta Novacek, Tyler Lystad, Kayla Lystad, Tyler Keenan, Sadie Wilemon, Renata Novacek, Cassie Maurer.
Her great-grandchildren include Jonathan, Jessamine, Joseph, Kerry, Henry, Georgia, Benji, Clyde, Hannah (Yancy), Hope (Seth), Ben (Destanie), Kayla, Ethan, Elliot, Oliver, Korra, Gabriel, Shaylin, Dakota, Charlise, Elaina, Sawyer, Rylee, Dean, Ivy, Joseph, Shelby, Grace, Addison, Logan, Kinslee, Emelynn, and Tommy.
Her great-great-grandchildren include Dani, Tara, Valentina, Jaxxtyn, Laylann, Analeigh, Ahlyiah, Reed, Knox, Rylie, Lincoln, Ellie, and Geryson.
Muriel is also survived by her sister-in-law Colleen Garrett, along with numerous extended family members and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.
Muriel will be remembered for her gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and her ability to find joy in life's simple blessings.
