Michael "Ted" Lystad, born on June 30, 1951, in Bottineau, North Dakota, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, in Ridgecrest, California. He was surrounded by family at the time of his death, a testament to the deep bonds he cherished throughout his life.
Ted dedicated many years of his professional career to the Bureau of Land Management as a drilling engineer, culminating in his retirement in 2018. His commitment to his work was reflected in the respect he garnered from colleagues and the community alike. Prior to embarking on his civilian career, Ted proudly served in the United States Navy from 1970 to 1974, demonstrating a dedication to service that shone brightly throughout his life.
A well-loved husband and father, Ted leaves behind his loving wife, Sally Lystad, and his cherished daughters, Amy Lystad and Jessica Lystad. His family was the centerpiece of his life, and he took great pride in their accomplishments and happiness.
In his personal life, Ted had a passion for sports, particularly enjoying rounds of golf with his friends. These moments not only provided him with joy but also fostered enduring friendships that he valued deeply.
Ted is preceded in death by his father, Lyle C. Lystad, and his mother, Muriel C. Lystad (Thompson). His legacy will continue to live on through the love and memories shared with his family and friends, whose lives he touched with kindness and generosity. Ted Lystad's life was characterized by love, dedication, and a spirit that will be missed.
