Muriel T. Whelan

Muriel T. Whelan, a lifelong resident of the Bronx, NY passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2026 at the age of 98.

She was the dear daughter of the late Thomas J. and Barbara Whelan. Loving sister of Thomas John (and Joan) Whelan II and the late Louis Whelan and sister-in-law of Patricia and Len Henriksson. Survived by several nieces and nephews, great nieces & nephews, and even a bunch of great great nieces & nephews!

Aunt Muriel was loved dearly by all of them. She was a devout Catholic & a lifelong parishioner at St. Barnabas Church, where she sang beautifully in the choir for almost 80 years. Muriel also loved putting on annual shows with "The Barnabas Players" through the years. After retiring from her career at IBM, Muriel spent years volunteering at St. Barnabas School, the same school she attended from elementary through high school. As a devoted NY Yankees fan, she looked forward to every televised game. The only thing greater than her love for the Yankees was her love for her family! She always said how lucky she was to have such a wonderful family. We all know that we are the lucky ones. Aunt Muriel sent hundreds of cards in her lifetime, as she never missed our birthdays, anniversaries, or any milestones. She has been an inspiration to all of us & we miss her already. A special thank you to Mabel, Bernie & Wilma, the wonderful caregivers who enabled Muriel to stay in her home these last few years & truly showered her with love. Another special thank you to Muriel's dear friend of over 60 years, Mary Jane, who along with her late husband, Jerome, were always there for Muriel. We are forever grateful!

The family will be present on Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 4 to 8 PM at Ruggiero & Sons, Inc. Funeral Home - 732 Yonkers Avenue - Yonkers, NY 10704 (914) 375-1400. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 10:45 AM at St. Barnabas Church - 409 E. 241st Street - Bronx, NY 10470. Muriel will be laid to rest on Thursday, March 12, 2026 at 11 AM at St. Anthony's Cemetery - 36 W. Nyack Road - Nanuet, NY 10954.
