Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Homes & Crematory - EdentonMyra “Julie” Liggett Phelps, 66, was born in Cali, Colombia, South America on April 25, 1959. She was adopted by her new, very loving parents Julius A. Liggett and Chloe E. Liggett. Julie passed away peacefully at home after a several years fight with Pulmonary Fibrosis and Leukemia. She never gave up, Loved her Lord to the very last breath. All that knew her loved her.
She was preceded in death by her adopted parents. Julie is survived by her husband, Carol V. Phelps; stepdaughter, Emiko Marie Phelps of Grifton, NC; daughter, Katie C. Phelps of Creswell, NC; son, Josh H. Phelps, Plymouth, NC; grandchildren, Micah V. Phelps of Ahoskie, NC, Bethany Marie Phelps of Grifton, NC, Isaac V. Phelps of Plymouth, NC, and Caleb B. Phelps of Plymouth, NC; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hardison and husband, Jimmy, and Jenny Swain; and brother-in-law, Charles Phelps and wife, Freda. She loved her family with unwavering love.
Julie graduated from Northside High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. She received an Associate’s Degree in Clerical Administration from Macon Community College in Macon, Georgia. During her working career, she worked for Hertz Car Rental, Middle Georgia Banks, United States Air Force, and retired from the Washington County School System in the Central Office in the Testing and Accountability Office.
She loved nature, cooking, knitting, traveling, boat and motorcycle riding, and fishing, but her greatest love was for her family, friends and our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who she is now with.
A memorial service celebrating Julie’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2025 at Philippi Church of Christ, 74 Old Cherry Road, Creswell, NC 27928.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at www.pulmonaryfibrosis.org or to a charity of one’s choice.
