Myra Petty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Stewart Family Funeral Home - Tyler on Jun. 21, 2023.
Services for Myra Helen Petty, 84, of Tyler will be held at Stewart Family Funeral Home, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at 7525 Old Jacksonville, Hwy, Tyler, with the Rev. Sherman Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow at Cathedral in the Pines Memorial Garden located at 7825 S. Broadway Ave, Tyler.
Mrs. Petty passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023, after a sudden illness.
She was born on February 6, 1939, to Mrs. Gladys Helen Brogdon and Mr. Hope J. Brogdon in Yantis, Texas. During her adult life, Myra took extraordinary pride in being an active employee of Petty's Irrigation & Landscape for the company her late husband founded from 1972 until her passing.
An active member of her community, she was honored to serve as a past board president for Tyler Area Builders Association and a member of its board for many years. She also cared greatly about her faith and was an involved member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church community.
Myra was a firm believer in having a fierce work ethic. It was a trait that started young, even having received an award for only missing one day in 12 years from the Yantis School District. She carried this on later in life, making it a rare occurrence if she was not the first person to arrive at Petty's in the mornings.
Myra is survived by her beloved sons, Charles Samuel Carns and Rick J. Carns, and grandchildren; Christopher Carns, Samantha Voigt, Austin Carns, Jack Carns and Cameron J. Carns. She is also survived by her long-time close friend, Patricia Thompson.
During her 51 years working for Petty's, Myra considered many longtime employees like family, including pallbearers: Jose Mendez, Raul Ramirez, Fred Penaloza, Jesus Penaloza, Juan Penaloza and Miguel Sandoval.
Visitation is scheduled for 1:30 – 2:30 p.m., prior to the Saturday service at Stewart Family Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks to consider memorials be made to organizations near and dear to Myra's heart including Hand Up Network, 200 N Beckham Ave, Tyler, TX 75702 (www.handupnetwork.com); Angel Layettes, 10534 FM 2813, Flint, TX 75762 (www.angellayettes.org).
