Myron Dean Andes Sr., a beloved member of the Kansas City community, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at the age of 89. He was born one of 10 siblings on November 29, 1935, in Kansas City, Missouri to Muriel and Thelma (Ham) Andes.
Myron graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1953, where he met his beloved wife, Mary. Their love story began with their marriage on June 12th of the following year, marking the start of a partnership filled with warmth and devotion. He possessed an ability to connect with others, never knowing a stranger. His legacy is one defined by dedication, service to others, and a true commitment to his community and family.
Myron was a hard worker even throughout his high school years. He was the manager at a roller rink, worked as the produce manager at the local grocery store and sold vegetables from his family farm. He even had the honor of delivering to the home of Harry Truman on numerous occasions. Myron's career spanned numerous roles, showcasing his versatility and dedication. He served as a milk delivery man for Adams Dairy, drove a school bus for Pace Bus Company, and devoted a significant portion of his life to working at the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an insurance agent, then sales manager. His tenacity shone through when, during a brief two-week tenure as acting district manager, he proudly broke the sales record for all districts in the country—an accomplishment that spoke volumes about his drive and determination. His career took him from the Kansas City area to Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Omaha, Nebraska; before retiring to Independence, Missouri.
Following his time at Metropolitan, Myron continued to serve his community through various roles, including picking up and shipping medical laboratory tests for Nichols Lab and providing prescriptions to nursing homes through a pharmacy company. After retirement, he operated a truck safety service and found joy in maintaining the local golf course, sharing his love for the outdoors with others.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Myron played an active role in community affairs. He served proudly as the president of the Blue Springs Jaycees and was a member of the Blue Springs Optimist Club. Together with Mary, Myron served as president of his local square dance club and the Heart of America Square Dance Federation. Myron’s faith was paramount in his life, and he served for many years as an elder in the Community of Christ Church, where he actively contributed to the spiritual wellbeing of those around him.
Myron is survived by his son, Myron Andes Jr.; sisters, Sharon Bazzel, Janet Stevenson (Carl), Gayle Hawley, and Joyce Baucom; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; daughter, Anita Marie Andes, and siblings, Del Andes, Louise Zink, Marilyn Badder, Lyle Wayne Andes and Linda Jacobs.
Myron leaves behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and unwavering support for his family and friends. His memory will be celebrated during a memorial service at Speaks Suburban Chapel on 39th Street in Independence, Missouri, on November 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
