Myrtle S. Cherkas, 95, was called home to be with our Lord on Sunday, November 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Willie Wilson and Mary Lee Wilson; first husband, Sidney Satterwhite; her second husband, William Cherkas; her daughters, Barbara Currin and Sandra Newton; and a grandson, Westley Satterwhite.
Myrtle lived and raised her children in Stovall, NC in a home filled with love and warmth for all whom entered the threshold. During her life, she was a hardworking woman, former co-owner of J & S Grocery in Stovall, C.N.A., and most of all, a loving mother and grandmother. She thoroughly enjoyed gardening of all types but especially her flowers.
Myrtle leaves behind her son, David W. Satterwhite (Janice); her grandchildren, Jeanie Middleton, Kristie Hill (Michael), Kelly Silivanch, Ashley Valdes (Carlos), Dylan Newton (Heather), Brittany Currin, and Justin Newton; her 13 beautiful great grandchildren, 3 precious great, great grandchildren and her brother, Larry Wilson and his wife, Trudy.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, November 24 at Meadowview Cemetery on Hwy. 15N, Oxford. If you would like to send flowers, they are always welcome or please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
The family wants to extend a special loving thanks to Tomeko Alley for her care and assistance with visits, phone calls, and delivering special "sweets" over the last year.
