Myrtle May Worley Williams

Myrtle May Worley Williams, 92, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Fellowship Home following a period of declining health. She was born on May 18, 1932, in Colquitt County to the late Frank S. and Roxie Swinson Worley, the 3rd oldest of nine siblings. She was the daughter of sharecroppers and shared the same birth date as her father. Growing up, she lived on various farms in Colquitt and Thomas counties and would often say that if there was any job that had to be done on a farm, she did it. Mrs. Williams met her husband, Henry “H.A.” Williams in Quitman in February of 1951 and were married in October of that year. They built their home on Tallokas Road in Quitman and there they would raise their family. Eventually, they moved to Valdosta to be closer to family. She had worked for the Presbyterian Home from the 1970’s to the 1990’s and loved every minute of her time there. After moving to Valdosta, she was always encountering people who either worked with or knew her from the Presbyterian Home. Mrs. Williams loved to cook and enjoyed having her family over for meals. She also enjoyed crocheting, sewing, crafting, and gardening, especially daylilies. She was known to be a strong, confident, and determined woman but balanced that with a sweet and funny disposition. She loved her family and took special delight in her grandchildren.

Mrs. Williams is survived by two children and their spouses, Cynthia and Raymond Conner of Valdosta and Henry (Andy) and Rae Williams of Tucson, Arizona; her grandchildren, Austin Conner of Orlando, Florida, Chad Conner of Portland, Oregon, Ellen and Alex Smith of Sheffield UK, and Jonathan Williams; a great-grandchild, Jax Conner of Portland, Oregon; a sister, Barbara Williamson of Baldwin, Georgia; special nieces, Sherrie Griffin, Anne Reid, and Jackie, Barber and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded by her husband, Henry “H.A.” Williams; daughters Wanda Gail Williams and Jennifer Louise Williams; brothers, Horace Worley, Ellis Worley, and Cecil Worley; her sisters, Clara Dukes, Geneva Summerals, Helen Smith, and Charlotte Coleman.

A graveside service for Myrtle Williams will be held at 2pm on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Columbia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randy Mullinax officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12-1 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
