Sangerville – Nadine L. Chadbourne, 79, wife of the late, Riley Chadbourne, passed away peacefully February 26, 2025, at her home. She was born April 21, 1945, in Waterville, the daughter of Erlon E. and Iris E. (Colson) Leathers.
Nadine adored children and worked as a day care provider for many years, for grandkids as well as others who became "family". She touched the lives of many kids over many years, and in some cases she watched over generations of families. Nathan and Amanda's new baby, Izzy, brought great joy to Nadine during her last weeks.
Nadine was lovingly known as Nanny to the grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be remembered for making the best lunches for the kids – fluffernutters on pumpernickel with dill pickles on the side and the BEST Blushing Bunny. In fact, to this day, no one can make it as good as Nanny made it. Nadine loved feeding and watching the birds – needing to occasionally chase off the squirrels, doing jigsaw puzzles, thrift shopping and yardsaling, and most importantly, spending time with family.Nadine often told everyone that she felt so blessed that all six of her children now lived close by.Gatherings often included one of Nadine's favorite foods--burnt hot dogs. Her sense of humor and 'off the cuff' remarks always got big laughs, and maybe a few raised eyebrows. Nadine also dearly loved her cat, Squirt, who will undoubtedly miss sleeping beside her.
Nadine is survived by her children, Angel Ginn and husband, Vance; Franki Shields; Rhoda Shields; Shaun Shields and his cherished dog, Missy; Jessica Brown and husband, Jason; and Amy Wallace and husband, Ben;grandchildren, Leah and significant other, James; Billy and wife, Cheyenne; Pat; Dennis; Jordan; Jonah; Emilynn; Grace and significant other, Colton; Hannah and significant other, Alex; and Bella; great-grandchildren, Hunter and significant other, Arwen; Addalyn; and Norah; great-great-grandson, Sebastian, who was affectionately called the "Dude" by Nanny; sister, Jeannine Conley, whose unwavering faith guided Nadine throughout the years and comforted her through her final journey; sister-in-law, Janice Leathers; brother-in-law, Ramey Lewis; and manybeloved nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her loving husband, Riley, she was predeceased by her parents, Erlon and Iris; grandson, Dan; siblings, Sylvia Pearl, Warner Leathers, and Carole Lewis; and brothers-in-law, Larry Conley and Norman Pearl.
Rest in Peace Speedy.
A special thank you to Davita Boyd Dialysis Unit, Eastside Center for Health and Rehabilitation, and Gentiva Hospice, all of whom treated Nadine with the utmost dignity and compassion.
A graveside service will be held in the Townhouse Cemetery in Sangerville in the spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Lary Funeral Home. Messages of condolence and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
