Charleston – Richard A. "Gundy" Goodwin Sr., 86, passed away peacefully October 13, 2025, at his home. He was born April 14, 1939, in Dover-Foxcroft, the son of Harold R. and Pearl F. (Russell) Goodwin.
Gundy started his dairy farming career in Bangor for 17 years and then continued in Charleston for many years until his retirement. He served the Board of Selectman in Charleston for 22 years and was a member of and current board member for the Church of the Open Bible, where he also served currently as an elder and a past deacon. He owned and managed Goodwin's Trailer Park in Dover-Foxcroft for several years. Gundy will be remembered as a devoted family man and loving husband. He was a very generous, caring, and supportive individual to so many and he always had a special place in his heart for children.
Gundy is survived by his loving wife, Annie (Sawyer) Goodwin, and they just recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary; his children, Richard Goodwin Jr. of Bangor, Julie Francis and her husband, Ron, of Hampden, Nancy Coleman and her husband, Frank, of Charleston, and Robert Goodwin of Charleston; grandchildren, Lacey and Jeremy Phelps of Boothbay Harbor, Ashley Hamilton of Dover-Foxcroft, Josh Goodwin and Jenny Turner of Surry, Brittany and Isaac Weymouth of Livermore, Christopher Francis of Fairfield, Corey Goodwin of Charleston, Diana Hamel of Hampden, Ryan and Laura Francis of Eddington, and Ashley Leighton and Jeremy Fields of Indian Island; a very special sister-in-law, Harriet Goodwin of Quincy, MA; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his beloved son, Raymond Goodwin; a very special granddaughter, RaeAnne Coleman; his parents; sister; and two brothers.
A special thank you to Gentiva Hospice and especially to Amber Tibbetts and Sarah LaPlante for the special care they gave Gundy over the last few months.
A time of visitation will be held 5-7PM Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Church of the Open Bible, 120 School Road, Charleston, where a funeral will be conducted 11AM Friday, October 17, 2025, with Pastor William McQueen officiating.
