Nadine Irene Farris Gale was born June 8, 1923, at 912 Pacific,
Kansas City, Kansas to Andy and Leola (Keele) Farris, both of whom preceded her in death. She grew up with one younger sister, Bonnie Jene Farris Lillich, who preceded her in death in 2020. She had three other siblings preceding her in death: Ruby May Farris in 1919, Chester Andrew Farris in 1920 and Roy Dean Farris in 1928.
She graduated from Wyandotte High School in1941, just before the start of World War II and worked at various jobs in the community. In December, when the United States entered the War, she had the opportunity to be trained to make radios for airfields and worked during the war years at Aireon doing just that.
After high school, she studied public speaking for two years under Miss Buckley at Kansas City Conservatory of Music. Anyone who knew Nadine from that point forward can attest to how she excelled in public speaking.
She married Charles Lee Gale on September 27, 1946. They were married just shy of 55 years when he preceded her in death on June 28, 2001. They had two sons. The first, Charles Andrew, was three years old when he preceded her in death. The second, Michael Dean, preceded her in death in 2014. They had one daughter, Bonnie May, who survives her and is married to Gene Edward Dunn of
Dearborn, Missouri.
After marrying, Nadine became a homemaker and a volunteer. Most notably, she read books and called bingo for 35 years at the retirement center she would later call home for the last 7 years and 2 months of her life. It was Wellsville Manor at that time and is now Wellsville Health and Rehab.
Nadine was active in the churches she belonged to. For forty-nine years, she's been a member of the Wellsville Baptist Church. Prior to that, Cornerstone Baptist and First Baptist of
Kansas City, Kansas. Her volunteer spirit, as well as her speaking ability and organizational skills, were all evident and in demand. Through the years, she taught Week-day Church School, which was a product of the 1950's, taught various Sunday School classes, directed Vacation Bible School year after year and headed up Pioneer Girls Club.
Nadine and Charles lived in the
Kansas City, Kansas area until 1975. It was then they moved to rural
Wellsville, Kansas which became the community they loved. In Wellsville, Nadine was an active member of the Wellsville American Legion Auxiliary Post 194 and often served as Chaplin.
In her own words "I have been blessed with four granddaughters, Michelle, Gabrielle, Clairelle and Tabitha. Also, with great grandchildren, Daniel Lee, Brianna and Bobby"
Also in her own words, "I accepted Jesus as my Savior in October of 1932, at nine years of age. This was my most important and best decision in life". Nadine transferred from this life to her eternal reward on June 3, 2024, 5 days away from turning 101.
