Naida M. Block age 89 of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 1, 2025 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN.
Naida Marie Block was born May 28, 1936 in Minneapolis, MN to Knute and Rhea (Hall) Lind. She grew up and received her education in Minneapolis, graduating from Minneapolis North High School. She lived and worked in San Diego, CA for several years before moving back to Minneapolis. Over the years she lived in various cities throughout the country before settling in the Shoreham area of rural Detroit Lakes. Naida worked at the Grover-Lindberg Truck Stop in Detroit Lakes. While working there, she met Arlo Block, who was also an employee of the Truck Stop. They were married in 1988 and had a wonderful life together living in Detroit Lakes. Naida also worked for Perkins and Multi County Nursing in Detroit Lakes.
Naida enjoyed arts and crafts and was an accomplished artist. She and Arlo loved going to Auctions, Phelps Mills, and the Steam threshers Reunion in Rollag. She enjoyed everything in nature as well as watching wildlife of all sorts. Flower gardening and her cats were among her favorite things. She will be remembered as a kind, gentle soul, with a hint of “Swedish stubbornness” in her.
She is survived by her husband, Arlo; one brother, Neil (Linda) Lind, of Frazee, MN; one grandson, Blaze Ettlinger; one niece, Rheanna Olson; two great nieces, Ellory and Emmi; eight stepchildren; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one sister in law, Shirley Lind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Audrey Davids; and one brother Dean Lind.
Memorial Services for Naida Block will be on Thursday September 11, 2025; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Audubon, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
