Peter Hines Obituary

Mystic - Peter Stephen Hines, 85, of Mystic died peacefully at home Sept. 8, 2025, with his wife and daughter by his side. Peter was born July 30, 1940 in Medford, Mass. to Martin Aden and Mabel Graham Hines.

He grew up in West Hartford, attended Hall High School and the University of Hartford, graduating in 1963. He then joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a captain, most notably at Thule (Pituffik) Air Base in Greenland.

He met and married his wife Carol in 1968. They moved back to Connecticut and settled in Mystic, where they raised their daughter, Dana. From 1968 to 1999, Peter worked for Pratt & Whitney as supervisor in technical publications for commercial jet engines.

Growing up, he spent summers in Groton Long Point with his family, where he made many life-long friends.

In his free time, he was an avid reader. He loved cooking for his family and friends, traveling, tuna fishing, boating, building wooden half-models, his Labradors, and military history. He was sweet and kind with an amazing sense of humor and will be remembered as a wonderful, devoted husband and the best father in the whole world.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his older brother Richard Hines. He leaves behind his wife Carol; and daughter Dana, both of Mystic; his sister Sandra Hines of Groton Long Point and New York City; and his niece and nephew, Tracey Verrier and David Hines both of Florida.

We would like to thank the incredible team of nurses and aides of the ICU department at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, the team at Smilow Cancer Center in Waterford, Carly and Julie, the incredibly kind Hospice nurses from Hartford Healthcare and Caron Gomes, who was a wonderful care giver - all helping us make it possible to have Pete at home with us and treating him with comfort and dignity.

At Pete's request, there will be no services or funeral, but because he loved a party, a Celebration of his Life will be held at a future date. For obituary information, or to share a note of condolence, please visit dinotofuneral.com.

Dear Carol, Dana and Sandy,
Please accept my most sincere condolences on the passing of our beloved Peter.
I was truly sorry to hear of our loss.
Peter was a gentleman, customer and absolutely one of the best people I've ever had the honor and privilege to call a friend. We had so many laughs together! He had a tremendous sense of humor! As warped as mine!! How many parties over the years, we would be in the corner giggling together???
I was extremely touched when he showed up at my 50th birthday party, especially knowing how much he hated these large gatherings. It meant the world to me and made that party more special than I think he ever realized.
He was loved by many and will be missed by all. Happy Hour just won't be the same.
Rest in Peace, my dear Friend.
