Nanci (Ann) M. Costigan, passed away on May, 22, 2025, at the age of 91. Beloved daughter of the late William Walker and Margarite (nee Mullen) Walker.
Nanci is survived by her loving children, Michele Chesser (the late Chess), Susan Morris (Paul Killen), Chris Costigan (Kristin), and her goddaughter and devoted caregiver, Valerie McGuigan who will forever remember her kindness, strength, and the laughter she brought into their lives. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Jeanine, Justin, Casey, and Colin, who carry her spirit forward in their hearts.
Nanci was preceded in death by the love of her life, her devoted husband, Joseph Francis Costigan (2011), whose memory she cherished, her siblings, Billy Walker, Peggy Franke, and John J. Walker.
Born on January 21, 1934, in Gray’s Ferry (Philadelphia) Nanci was the youngest of four children. She attended St. Gabriel’s grade school and graduated from West Catholic High School in 1951 at the age of 17. Nanci initially worked as an elevator operator at the Bellevue-Stratford Hotel and later the Wanamaker Building. She spent the majority of her life working as a waitress at a number of local restaurants in Delaware County. She finished working at Villanova University’s Donahue Hall cafeteria.
Nanci loved the neighborhood (St. Laurence) and all the friends and family she made along the way. She enjoyed all things Philadelphia sports (especially the EAGLES), Villanova Basketball and playing pinochle. In her later years she enjoyed reading biographies, listening to Kay Star, Frank Sinatra and Motown. Nanci enjoyed watching anything Western on TV, especially movies with Ronald Regan and John Wayne. She loved to tell a good story and enjoyed a good laugh. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart. Nanci loved when they would spend time with her.
Nanci was resilient and lived a long life. Her body gave out but her spirit never did. She now joins her husband, Joe and other family and friends in a more peaceful place.
Her family wishes to extend a special thanks to Mainline Health Homecare and Hospice for their care and support over the years. Nanci was a frequent flyer.
