Nancy Braithwaite Arnold, of Clinton, South Carolina, died February 17, 2026. She was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, on September 19, 1932, to the late Irving and Marion Braithwaite.
Nancy was a graduate of Simmons University in Boston, Massachusetts. Her career began at Western Electric and Bell Labs located in N. Andover, Massachusetts. She later worked as a librarian at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
Nancy, and her husband, Carl, who taught business and economics at Rollins College, left Florida and made the move to Clinton in 1969. Dr. Arnold joined the faculty in the Business Administration and Economics department at Presbyterian College and Nancy accepted a position as the Thornwell School librarian. Their dedication to educating and encouraging young people was well known in the community.
Carl passed away in 2018, and Nancy chose to stay in Clinton enjoying her flowers and gardening, reading good books, and taking care of her dogs (children) who were her constant companions. Nancy was baptized in the Episcopal church at a young age, but several years ago she began regularly attending First Presbyterian Church of Clinton. She embraced the beauty of worship and grew in her faith, hardly ever missing a Sunday. She officially became a member February 2, 2025, and thoroughly enjoyed the kindness and love offered by the whole congregation.
This past year, Nancy moved to the Clinton Presbyterian Community. Her experience there was wonderful! She was welcomed by everyone, reuniting with friends from earlier years, as well as making new friends. Nancy truly appreciated all of the caregivers, staff, and residents, who made her feel so special and loved each and every day.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, Clinton, South Carolina.
