Nancy Bartlett Obituary
Our beloved mother, Nancy Joan Bartlett, 76, of Wheeling, peacefully transcended into the Kingdom of Jehovah on Sunday, December 1, 2024, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, after a courageous battle with extensive illnesses, surrounded by the loving energy of her family and friends.
Born on September 21, 1948, to the late Robert and Joan Whitehouse of East Wheeling, she is also preceded in death by her two sisters, Mary Virginia Smereck and Bridget Lynn Wilson. Nancy is survived by "her much prettier, much skinnier" little sister Jesse (Dave) Larter and her three savage daughters Heather (Lee) Norris, Joie (Forever single) Bartlett, and Nicole (Louis) Davis. She loved being Aunt Nancy to several nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren Doree, Cierra, Jaelan, Nataya, Autumn, and Erin; and her great-grandchildren Amari and Aniya, for whom she fought with unwavering strength and determination, were the light of her life.
She attended Mt. de Chantal Visitation Academy, graduating from Central Catholic High School and Wheeling Beauty School. Ever the hard worker, Mom held a variety of jobs over the years. She had a lifelong passion for creating; there wasn't a craft, sewing project, or painting endeavor that she didn't enjoy, and she wielded her glue gun with unmatched enthusiasm. Ever the history buff, she could talk for hours about the Civil War and especially the history of Wheeling. She also loved anything Harry Potter
One of her proudest achievements was building a home and raising our family out in the country. What a childhood we had, playing in the creek, having horses, and being country girls. Middle Creek Road will always be home to Mom.
Family was by far Mom's biggest love, but being a diehard Cleveland Browns fan ranked a close second. Win or lose, she never wavered in her dedication to the Dawg Pound. Her mantra through many a health battle was "I'm not dying until the Browns are in the Super Bowl." Hence why we thought our dear mother would live forever.
Despite her health hardships, which resulted in Mom being in a wheelchair for the last 15 years, her life remained full and rich as she continued to shine that same trademark warmth, charm, and humor to all she met. She found exceptional peace in her recent years as a standout resident at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, and the staff truly became family.
She is undoubtedly the strongest woman we have ever known, never giving up, living life on her own terms, embodying the spirit of the eternal hippie she is, and raising three fierce, independent daughters who will continue to carry on her legacy.
Our mother had an irrevocable love for her family and those who surrounded her. She has forever left footsteps of peace and light as she traveled through this world, living forever young and forever free.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that a random act of kindness be done in memory of our mother. Unless you are a Steeler fan of course.
There will be a Celebration of Life on December 14, 2024, at Good Shepherd Nursing Home from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm to honor this amazing woman. We ask that everyone wear something tie dyed. All are welcome to attend.
Private arrangements have been entrusted to CARE Funeral Homes & Cremation Specialists South Wheeling Chapel. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family on this page.
