Nancy Board Obituary
Nancy Gillespie Board, 87, currently from Murphy, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026. She was surrounded by family and passed peacefully in her home.
Born Jan. 10, 1937, in Charleston, W.Va., she was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence B. Gillespie; her mother, Cleo Captola Swindler Gillespie; and her son, Edward "Chip" Board II.
She passed 12 days shy of her 68th wedding anniversary to the love of her life, Edward H. Board. Surviving along with Eddie are her daughters, Jamie Beck (Colby), Julie Hearne (Harry); grandson, Brandon Board (Carlyn); granddaughters, Emma Glandt (Daniel Gavrilovski) and Allyson Glandt (Jake Sunde); and two great-grandchildren, Edward Orion Board and Kinsleigh Rae Board.
Nancy loved being a wife, a mom and a granny. She and her mom ran a 40-acre farm in West Virginia from 1970-90. Nancy loved to feed people, garden, read and nurture her Christian faith.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Thursday, May 14, in Brasstown, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations to be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or to your local food bank.
