Nancy Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 18, 2026.
Nancy Ann Towler Brown, passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 87. Mrs. Brown leaves many family members and friends behind to mourn her passing and to carry on her lasting legacy.

Born in Walton County, Georgia, on July 30,1938, to John Hubert Towler and Irene Higginbotham Towler, she was raised in Monroe and after marrying, she moved to Fairplay, Georgia, where she resided at the time of her death. Mrs. Brown, a God-fearing Christian, was loved by many for her dedication and kindness to all who crossed her path.

She graduated from Monroe High School in1956 and married George Marvin Brown of Morgan County shortly after her graduation. She and Mr. Brown raised two beautiful daughters, Angela and Penny, in Fairplay. Throughout Mr. Brown's health issues, she was the epitome of a helpmate making certain that all her husband's needs were met. After his death in 1986, she continued to serve her community, her church, her friends, and most of all, her sweet family of which she was so proud. Through her strength, dry humor, and love for others, she made a difference.

Her service as a kindergarten para-pro at Morgan County Primary School for over twenty-five years is still remembered by a host of students who lovingly recall her and her rocking chair that ministered to the hearts of so many. She not only educated them, but she poured into their souls love and respect.

She served her churches. She and Mr. Brown raised their family at Prospect Methodist Church and were instrumental in discipling other young people. Later, after she lost her husband, Mrs. Brown joined and became very involved at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Social Circle. She looked forward to attending the Single Again group and the covered dish meal that followed, and any activity going on at Ebenezer's WMU brought excitement to her. She truly loved the Lord and being with His people.

Her friends, and she had many, were lights in her life. Whether she was hosting or carpooling to someone's house for dominoes and food or shopping, she was happy. When the group could no longer get together, she enjoyed lengthy phone calls and laughs with her friends, some who had been her friends for over 80 years. The River Rats and the Dominoes were equally important to her, as were many other friends.

She loved her family. Serving each of them separately and together was her focus. Whether eating barbecue and stew or a southern meal of ham and greenbeans, the time together was what mattered most. She longed for the times they could all gather around the tables in the dining room and in the yard to celebrate the lives that had begun when she married Mr. Brown in 1956.

Mrs. Brown was known for her butter mints and would occasionally share her recipe, though often threatening to have to kill the ones she shared it with if they did not keep it tightly hidden. She loved chicken salad sandwiches from Wendy's and was known to drag her daughter Angela or Angela's friend to take her when the craving hit. She on occasion wrote poems to her friends. Her heart was full of the love for others and had to be shared.

Granny Grump, or simply Grump, as she was known by her family, lived a full and prosperous life. She would be first to share that wealth is not found in worldly goods but in what we do to build the Kingdom of God. That, she certainly did.

Nancy Ann Towler Brown was predeceased by her parents; her husband, George Marvin Brown; her daughter, Angela Brown Malcom; her daughter, Penny Brown Carter who passed away February 13, 2026; brother, Johnny Hubert Towler; and nephew, Keith Towler.

She leaves to continue her legacy, five grandchildren: Lee Carter, Justin Malcom (Melissa), Anna Williamson, Riley House, and Heather Jacoby (Patrick); eight great-grandchildren: Rhett Malcom, Lucy Malcom, Briggs House, Blane House, Dawson Williford, Mallory Jacoby, Aislynn Williamson, and Jacob Williamson; and one great-great grandchild, Anya Williford. She also leaves to mourn her, two sons-in-law: Butch Malcom and Larry Carter; a sister-in-law, Polly Towler; and two nephews, Kenneth Towler and Chris Towler.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 19, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, from 2:00-3:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life to follow at Ebenezer at 3:00. Interment will be at Prospect Methodist Church in Fairplay, Georgia. Flowers are welcome. Donations can also be made to Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Well-done, thy good and faithful servant, Nancy Ann Towler Brown.
