Nancy Case

Nancy Jane Case (née Sheehan), age 74, passed away on Tuesday September 23, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Nancy was born on January 23, 1951 in Clifton Springs, NY the daughter of the late William and Florence Johnston Sheehan. Growing up on Church Street in Phelps, NY, Nancy graduated from Phelps Central School in 1969. Following in her mother's footsteps, Nancy then earned a degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Lindsey Hopkins Technical College in Miami, FL. After beginning her career at North Miami General Hospital, she returned to Phelps and built a life on Church Street (right next door to her childhood home). She worked as a nurse at the VA Hospital in Canandaigua and later at Finger Lakes Developmental Disabilities Services Office. She finished her career as an LPN for BOCES, but remained an active member of the community as a volunteer at Second Seasons in Clifton Springs and at a hospice in Clearwater, FL. Nancy enjoyed sipping chardonnay with her friends, tending to her garden, quilting and had a passion for theatre and music (but only as a spectator). Nancy was a champion of progressive causes, advocating for women and members of the LGBTQ community, among other marginalized groups. She enjoyed traveling and especially loved wintering in Florida with her husband "Chuckie". Nancy, with an infectious smile, was a friend to all and a caretaker to many, including a lifetime of lucky pets. Most important to Nancy were her family, friends and community. Nancy is survived by her husband of 31 years Charles Case of Geneva; children Michael Sheehan of New York City and Natalie (Andrew) Blake of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Jordyn, Jolee and Nyah; siblings Mary (Stephen) McAllister of Phelps and Thomas Sheehan of Phelps; sister-in-law Carol (Donald) Baker of Louisa, VA; brothers-in-law Gary (Leo Meath) Case of Phelps, Terry (Sandra) Case of Waterloo and Lynn Koepke of Churchville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Sheehan. Friends may call on Monday, September 29 from 4pm-6pm at the Cheney Funeral Home (70 Main Street, Phelps, NY 14532). Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 30 at 11am at St. Agnes Cemetery in Clifton Springs, NY with Father Donald Schranz of St John's Episcopal Church officiating.
