Nancy Cates Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vincent Funeral Home - West Point on Apr. 23, 2025.
Nancy Jones Cates, 96, passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, April 9, in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Mrs. Cates was the widow of the late Richard Jones and her second husband the late Ralph Cates.
She was a devoted member of the Olive Branch Christian Church in Toano, where she played the organ and sang in the choir.
Throughout her career, she served the James City County Court system and later worked in the Reimbursement Department at Eastern State Hospital.
Known for her quiet demeanor, Nancy possessed an extraordinary and unrecognized strength. She demonstrated steadfast resilience during challenging times, particularly when her first husband, Richard Jones, became paralyzed at a young age. Nancy remained a pillar of strength, balancing her responsibilities at work, maintaining her home, and providing devoted care for Richard.
She was the youngest of five sisters who all preceded her in death.
Nancy is survived by her three children: Wayne Jones, Jan McGinnis, and Donald Jones.
She had six grandchildren: Richard and Nancy, Steve and Cliff, and Don and Colin. She had one great-grandchild Jessie Jones.
A funeral service and interment will be held 3 pm, Friday, May 9, 2025, at Williamsburg Memorial Park.
Donations may be made to Toano Volunteer Fire Department.
She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
