Nancy Chiang Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home & Cremation Center - Morton on Dec. 1, 2025.
MORTON – Nancy L. Chiang, 90, of Morton, passed away on November 26, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. She was born Li-wei Lou on February 26, 1935, in Nanjing, China to Y.C. and T.S. (Tsao) Lou. Due to the tumultuous political climate in China in the 1930s and 1940s, Nancy's family moved several times, most notably to the Sichuan province of China during the second Sino-Japanese War, before eventually relocating to Taiwan in 1949. Nancy earned her bachelor's degree in accounting from National Taiwan University. After graduation, she was employed at the Central Trust of China, where she met her future husband, Chi-yung Chiang, and they later married in 1961. They emigrated to the United States to further their education at Kansas State University, where Nancy received her master's degree in statistics. After completing their degrees, Nancy and Chi-yung moved to Morton in 1968. Surviving are her husband, Chi-yung of Morton; children, Anne (Richard) Saiki of Moorpark, CA and Gary (Stacy) Chiang of San Diego, CA; grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan Saiki and Catherine Chiang; three sisters, J.W. Fan of Taipei, Taiwan, Helen Ma of Pittsboro, NC, Susan Hsia of Topeka, KS; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Judy Woo. A two-time cancer survivor, Nancy was a force of nature. She demonstrated her love for family and friends by cooking and baking for them. She expressed her artistic side through painting flowers and landscapes as her subjects and was an active member of the Morton Art Guild. In addition, she was a talented seamstress who made tailored clothing and beautiful quilts. She was especially proud of her large rose garden, participating in the Greater Peoria Rose Society. She and Chi-yung played Sudoku fanatically to stay mentally sharp, and they could often be spotted around town on their daily walks together. Nancy fully embraced life in Illinois, becoming an avid Illini and Cubs fan, and enjoying good fried chicken and local produce. Most of all, she was a people-person who enjoyed spending time with her many friends and large extended family. Nancy led a remarkable life and will be dearly missed. Memorials may be made to City of Hope Cancer Center in Duarte, CA. Cremation will be accorded. No services are planned at this time.
