Nancy Daugherty Obituary

Nancy Fleigh Daugherty, 76, died on July 6, 2023. She was born on August 9, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD. Her parents were Margery Eyerly Fleigh and Robert Rouskulp Fleigh of Hagerstown. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Willis Vance Daugherty, Jr. Nancy is survived by her sister, Margery E. Fleigh; her three step-children, Elizabeth Daugherty, Katharine Daugherty, and Willis Daugherty; and by maternal and paternal cousins to whom she was devoted. In her early years, Nancy enjoyed competitive swimming and synchronized swimming as a member of the Hagerstown Y Girls' Swim Team and at Camp Strawderman. Nancy graduated from Emma Willard School in 1964, and the University of Maryland in 1968, with a major in American history and literature. From 1968 through 1994, she worked in Boston at New England Telephone, AT&T, and NYNEX, rising to become a successful manager. Nancy met her husband, Will, in 1994, and he won her heart. They were married in 1995. Together, they enjoyed many trips, cruises, and travel around the world. Nancy was Will's able first mate on their boat, Sand Iron, and they had many sailing trips up and down the East Coast. Will died in 2010, also on July 6th. Nancy was a member of a Williamsburg book group, played duplicate bridge, and supported the fine arts, especially art and music. An accomplished golfer, Nancy was a member of the Two Rivers Women's Golf Association in Williamsburg, serving terms as secretary and Vice-President. In 2003, Nancy was the first woman golfer elected to the Board of Governors of the Two Rivers Country Club, where she chaired the Grievance Committee (2003-2004) and co-chaired the Marina Committee (2004). In addition, Nancy was President of the Bob Fleigh Foundation of Hagerstown from 2005 until 2014. Nancy was a kind, generous, smart, intellectually curious, caring, and sweet person, and she knew how to be a good friend. She will be missed by her family and friends, by the Williamsburg community, including Marie Gray and Tracy Kendrick, and by her good friend Jane Rozes, her godson Jonathan Rozes, and their family. Nancy requested that there not be a memorial service. In lieu of flowers, friends are welcome to make a donation to one of her favorite charitable organizations: Doctors Without Borders, Williamsburg Symphony Orchestra, and Jacob's Ladder, Inc. She will be buried at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown. May she rest in peace. Bucktrout Funeral Home is assisting the family.

I knew Nancy for the last 7 years. She reintroduced me to duplicate bridge and we enjoyed my visits. We traveled for a week to Charleston SC to play in a regional bridge event. May she rest in peace.
