Nancy Barbara (Doud) Walsh

June 23, 2025

Nancy Barbara (Doud) Walsh, 84, of North Scranton, died on Monday morning, June 23, 2025, at Marywood Heights, Scranton, under the care of her family and Hospice of the Sacred Heart.

Born June 30, 1940 to the late Joseph and Marion (Ratchford) Doud, Nancy lived a full and faith-filled life. Nancy was an active student and graduated with honors from Holy Rosary High School. Upon graduation, Nancy worked for the Trane Company, where she met her future husband, Jerome Walsh, with whom she celebrated nearly 63 years of marriage. Nancy was a devoted wife and mother who was ever-present in the family home, and supportive of many church and community organizations and activities. A daily communicant for much of her later years, she was a lifelong member of St. Vincent de Paul Church until closure, and remained active at Mary, Mother of God Parish, writing countless greeting cards to homebound parishioners in her perfect script penmanship.

Over the years, Nancy was president of the PTA at Bancroft Elementary School, where she was also a favorite “lunch lady”; CCD teacher; volunteer church cleaner and decorator; substitute in the Scranton School District; teacher’s aide for the N.E.I.U. and St. Mary Pre-school, Dunmore; and member of the Association of Jeanne Jugan, Little Sisters of the Poor. Nancy had a gift of loving service to young and old alike. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of home. There was no bigger fan of Johnny Mathis music, nor greater shopper of Boscov’s Department Store. Our beautiful Nancy loved the color blue and had a great devotion to Good Saint Ann.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Jerome, Scranton; sons, James (Havertown, PA), Jeffrey (Gaylord, MI), and Joseph (Peoria, AZ); grandchildren, Kelsey Walsh (Pittsburgh, PA), Dr. Katelyn (Dr. Conor) Bradley (Havertown, PA), and Matthew Walsh (Peoria, AZ); great grandchild, Brendan Gerard Bradley (Havertown, PA); sister, Joan (Doud) McCormack (Mechanicsburg, PA); niece, Elizabeth McCormack (Mechanicsburg, PA); and many extended family members.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Mary Ellen Doud; brother-in-law, James McCormack, and daughter-in-law, Ann (Musheno) Walsh.

The Walsh family would like to express deep gratitude to all the administrators and staff at both Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Marywood Heights, for their exceptional care of Nancy during the last weeks of her illness.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Holy Rosary Church, at Mary, Mother of God Parish, 320 William Street in North Scranton, on Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11:00 am, with her son, the Most Reverend Jeffrey J. Walsh, Bishop of Gaylord, Michigan, presiding. Friends are welcome to pay last respects on Thursday afternoon, June 26, 2025, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm, and on Friday morning, June 27, 2025, from 9:30-10:30 am at the Edward Knight O’Donnell Funeral Home, LLC, 323 William Street, Scranton. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery to follow.
