Nancy Engelbert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Homes and Crematory - Washington St. on Dec. 7, 2022.
Nancy Jo Engelbert passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, December 5th, 2022, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Nancy's sudden death came as a devasting shock to the entire family. Nancy was born November 12th, 1955, in Springfield, Ohio. Nancy was the daughter of Eleanor and William Rump. Nancy is survived by her mother, Eleanor Wiegel; brother, Brooks Rump; beloved husband of 47 years, Derck Engelbert; daughters, April Engelbert of Troutdale, Oregon, Angie Engelbert of Tomball, Texas; and son, Alex Engelbert of Columbus. Nancy was preceded in death by her father, William Rump.
Nancy's greatest joys in life were being a devoted mother of 3 wonderful children, a soulmate of 47 years to a wonderful husband who always felt that Nancy was the best thing that ever happened to him, a passionate and untiring elementary teacher, and a world traveler. Nancy was happiest when planning and traveling with her children and husband which spanned all over the United States and touched in England, France, and Italy. Nancy loved her job as a pre-kindergarten teacher at Eastside Elementary School in Edinburgh, a job she often remarked she would do for free. Nancy would spend free time at home planning, constructing, and creating lessons plans/learning games for her students and took pictures of them often. During the summer you would often find Nancy spending hours outside in the garden or on other projects around the house. Nancy was a life-time member of the First United Methodist Church and active in Church Circle and member of the PEO. Nancy enjoyed a close, warm, and loving relationship with all her children to whom she was their hero. Nancy was the binding force of the family and a source of inspiration and love that will be missed beyond expression but never forgotten.
Calling hours will take place on Monday, December 12th at the Barkes, Weaver, and Glick Funeral Home & Crematory located in downtown Columbus at 1029 Washington Street from 4:30pm-6:30pm. A short service of remembrance will begin at 6:30pm and all are welcome. Nancy's body will be cremated and in part scattered in the ocean off the coast of Florida and interred in part at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Edinburgh during a private ceremony with family. Friends, may, in lieu of flowers make a financial contribution to the Edinburgh Community School Corporation, Eastside Elementary School.
Condolences and special memories may be shared with the family and a video tribute may be seen at barkesweaverglick.com.

Nancy Jo and I were very close in 6th and 7th grades, and we spent a lot of time at each other's houses. I just learned of her passing, and I am so sorry to hear this. I have such good memories of our friendship. I am praying for your family. Please tell her mother that I send my prayers and remember her wonderful hospitality fondly.
