Nancy Eileen (Crites) Evans age 81 of Rig WV passed away on Tuesday evening July 8, 2025 in Winchester, VA. Born May 14, 1944, in Rig (Critestown), WV, she was the daughter of the late Willie Paige Crites and Phyllis Madalene Snyder Crites. Preceding her in death were her parents, along with her beloved grandson, Shayne Evers Evans, who left this world too soon in October 2020.
Nancy embarked on a remarkable career journey that spanned over 50 years, beginning her work at Hester Industries, Inc., now known as Pilgrim's Pride, on March 3, 1975. Recently, she enjoyed a well-deserved retirement on April 15, 2025, after dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her profession. Her commitment was matched only by her passion and for her family and others, always putting others before herself.
Nancy possessed a vibrant spirit, marked by her unwavering dedication to her passions. She was an ardent supporter of her West Virginia University football and basketball teams, cheering enthusiastically for her Mountaineers, win or lose. Her love for gardening, particularly caring for her beautiful flowers, spoke to her nurturing nature, complemented by her enjoyment in cooking and cleaning.
Her love for her family was boundless and defined her existence. She is survived by her caring husband of 63 years, Colon Lowell Evans, who stood by her side through thick and thin. Nancy was the proud mother of Lowell Evans (Annette) of Fisher, WV, Madalene (Matty) Vance (Jeff), and Colleen Hedrick (Todd Bramsen), all from Moorefield, WV. Her role as a grandmother brought her immense joy, with grandchildren Josh Evans of Moorefield, WV, Mason Hedrick of Bozeman, MT, Bryson Hedrick (Tina) of Petersburg, WV, Ben Vance (Bailey) of Moorefield, WV, and Jackson Vance of Winnabow, NC, lighting up her life. Furthermore, she was blessed with six great-grandchildren who will carry her legacy forward. She is also survived by a special friend, more like a sister, Carol Crites of Rig, WV, and her adored Shih Tzu named Lady, who was a constant source of comfort.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the Fraley Funeral Home Chapel, 107 Washington Street, Moorefield. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 14 at the funeral home with Pastor Wade Armentrout, officiant. Interment will follow in the Olivet Cemetery.
