Nancy J. Gierach, 79, formerly of Tinley Park, passed away on January 5, 2026.
Nancy was born on January 28, 1946, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Eugene and Barbara (Cue) Lane. She grew up in Topeka, Kansas, and attended Washburn University. She later attended Iowa State University, where she met her future husband, Stephen Gierach.
Nancy and Stephen were married for more than 52 years before his passing in January 2022. They made their home in Oak Forest and Tinley Park, where they raised their five sons.
Nancy worked for the family business doing the accounting and computer programming as well as raising her five sons. She always had a smart comment and a strong personality. She was caring and loving, and believed in tough love when it came to raising her boys. Family vacations were important to her, especially camping trips. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bicycling and crocheting.
She is survived by her children, Karl (Charlene), Michael (Cristen), John (Jamie), Matthew (Lisa), and Thomas; her grandchildren, Grace, Lillianne, Preston, Andrew, Kyler, Charlotte, Gretchen, Madelyn, Anderson, and Hannah; her brother, Gene (Carol) Lane; and her sister-in-law, Carol Lane.
Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Gierach; her parents, Eugene and Barbara Lane; and her brother, Harold Lane.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 12, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Cantius Parish, 825 N. Carpenter Street, Chicago. Burial will follow at Good Shepherd Catholic Cemetery in Orland Park.
