Nancy Hanson Obituary

Nancy J. Hanson (Zywicki)
Jan. 25, 1955 - Aug. 20, 2022
Nancy Jean Hanson left this world to be with her husband, Nick, Aug. 20, 2022. She spent the last years of her life as a resident of St. Helens, Ore., but she raised her family with Nick in Northeast Portland.
Nancy was born in Vancouver, Wash., Jan. 25, 1955. She was the daughter of Robert and Margaret Zywicki. She married Nicholas "Nick" F. Hanson in July 1973, and they were married for 47 years. Nick and Nancy were a dynamic couple working side-by-side for decades at their business, Oblique Northwest (aka ONW or Filing Systems Specialist), on Northeast 43rd Avenue in Portland.
As a mother, Nancy made sure her children were always taken care of. She was the home chef, homework assistant, and taxi driver. How she kept the schedule together for four young children that were only five years apart in age was a miracle.
She was also an amazing, patient, caring wife for her husband. She worked as his office manager and accountant for their small business. On perfect days, they could both steal away for a lunch date at Pal's Shanty where they would share a sandwich and talk about when they were heading to Depot Bay again or Pacific City to watch a sunset.
When Nancy became a grandma, she was crowned with the name "GranNan." She was blessed with six grandsons to spoil. She would constantly create games and scavenger hunts for them and would go out of her way to make them feel special. Whether it was monster trucks or building blocks, she was at home playing and telling stories to her grandsons. She loved her boys and was so proud of them; they were forever changed by her love.
Nancy is survived by her four children, Joseph (Jesica), Margaret (Jeremy), Bridget (Kerry), and Gary (Courtney); her six grandsons, Nicholas, Garrett, Max, Gus, Finn, and Colt. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Joann, Dan, Rosanne, Mary, Tom, and Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022 at Mt. Scott Funeral Home. Nancy will be laid to rest during a private family graveside service at Willamette National Cemetery.

I was very sad to hear of Nancy's death. She was a such a lovely person, and I think of her with fond thoughts. I think of her too on our neighborhood walks and remember she and Nick when we both had young families in Madeleine Parish. May the angels hold her closely!
