Nancy Jean Jeffries Whitmore was born in Burlington North Carolina.
She was the third child of six, born of the late Bennie Lee and Millie Pat Jeffries. She moved to Norwalk, Connecticut to marry Clyde H. Whitmore Sr.
She spent 40 years working for Sears RoebuckCompany. Her main focus was raising her fourchildren; following her sons to many basketball games and practices and trying to find something for her daughter to do besides sit on the phone or watch TV.
Nancy was raised Baptist in North Carolina. When her oldest son Clyde Jr decided to coach the recreational basketball team for the First Congregational Church on the Green, he was required to attend worship on Sundays. She decided to attend as well. Nancy has been involved with the church ever since, serving as a Deacon and for many years as an usher.
When her grandchildren started arriving she jumped in again helping to raise them and definitely spoiling each of them, those in Norwalk and Maryland as well. She always wanted to see them. And as they got older she was still interested in where they were and what they were doing with their lives.
Nancy leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Denise W. Jenkins (Raymond), her son Harold B. Whitmore (Darleen), daughter-in law Cynthia Carter Whitmore, special family member Tanya Bailey, sisters Jessie Mae Graves, Joanne Jeffries Davis, her only remaining sister-in-law, Clara V. Burnette, her beloved nieces Carmelita and Heather Gilliam, 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, many cherished nieces and nephews, extended family and life long friends.
The Whitmore family would like acknowledge and thank Dory Walters Brown for her care and companionship in mom's final days of life.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Clyde Sr., her eldest son, Clyde Jr., her youngest son, Bennie Nathaniel, her sisters, Ida Jeffries Enoch,Poinciana Jeffries Hall, and brother, Edgar Jeffries. Her daughter-in-laws Darlene Bradley Whitmore and Susan Alexander Whitmore.

What a loss for us, but a wonderful gain for heaven! Mrs. Whitmore, from the moment I met her (and heard that sweet southern drawl) became one of my favorite people in the world. Thoughts of her compassion, sassiness, tell-it-like-it-is attitude, grin and giggle continue to bring me joy. To the Whitmore family, my deep love and condolences, but mostly my gratitude. Thank you for sharing Nancy with us! What a wonderful gift! Rest In Power and Peace, Nancy, until we meet again.
