Nancy "Nan" Johnson

Nancy "Nan" Johnson, 89, Iron Mountain, MI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 18, 2026, at Evergreen Senior Living in Kingsford, MI from complications with dementia.

Nan was born on September, 25, 1936, in Escanaba, MI, to Earl and Elizabeth (Motto) Christensen. She is a graduate of Escanaba High School. On June 21, 1958 she married Robert "Bob" Johnson and in 1963 they moved to Kingsford, MI to open Town & Country Sales and had two sons.

During her career, Nan was a promotions manager at the Dickinson Inn, a talk show host (Just Between Us with Nan Johnson) at WJNR - FM radio station and a Public Relations Manager for DCH system. Through the years, she enjoyed opening her home to guests, hosting dinner clubs, performers from Tanzania, and athletes during the Pine Mountain Ski Tournament and Music Festival.

She was an active member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Iron Mountain traveling to Biloxi, Mississippi as a Katrina volunteer. She volunteered over the years in many community projects including the Florence Wildlife Refuge, Florence Snowmobile Club, Cruzin' America Car Club, and was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Nan deeply loved and enjoyed her family. She also enjoyed snowmobiling, kayaking, gardening in her beautiful yard, and entertaining her friends at home on her pontoon boat floating the Menominee River. Nan loved to travel, enjoying adventures to Europe and Mexico with friends and visiting all 50 states with her husband Bob.

She is survived by her 2 sons, Jeff (Diane) of Portland Oregon and Todd of Iron River, Michigan; many nieces and nephews, Mike (Michelle), Patty (Mark), Scott (Lee Ra), Rochelle (Victor) and Frank; special friend, Mike Bopray; and many other cherished family members.

Nan was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Ray Christensen.

The family would like to thank the staff at Evergreen Memory Care Unit, My Home My Care (Jessica) and OSF Hospice (Ashley & Staff) for their professionalism and taking care of our mom.

Visitation will be at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1210 S. Kimberly Ave., from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on May 19, 2026, with Pastor Nick Hopman officiating the memorial service at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Our Savior's Church or the Dickinson County Cancer Unit.
