Nancy Lee Kanyo, 78, longtime Palmer resident, passed away peacefully Friday evening, January 19, 2024 at UP Health System Marquette.
Nancy was born June 26, 1945 in Bremerton, Washington, to Elmer and Eleanor (Hautamaki) Teppola, and graduated from Ishpeming High School. She was a longtime nurse's aide at the Palmer Home for the Aged, and was a devoted homemaker to her family. She married Joseph Kanyo on October 8, 1992, and together they enjoyed over 17 years together before Joe's passing.
In her spare time, she enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, playing BINGO, scratch off Lotto tickets, and reading. Nancy and Joe spent many summers at Joe's family property downstate, and also liked an occasional trip to the casino together. Above all, Nancy loved time spent with her beloved grandchildren.
Surviving are her three daughters: Valerie Harris of Salem, VA, Karen Marta of Ishpeming, and Trudy (Luke) Gustafson of Palmer; her son, Ross (Amanda) Manninen of Ishpeming; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph Kanyo; and her son-in-law, Chris Harris.
Nancy's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff in the cardiac unit at UP Health System Marquette for their compassionate care.
Honoring Nancy's wishes, no public services will be held.
