Nancy Kern, 69, of Mt. Vernon, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023.
She was born August 1, 1953 in Centralia, the daughter of Edward Schilling and Dora (Roper) Schilling. She married Joe Kern in 1977 and he survives.
In addition to her husband of 46 years, Joe Kern of Mt. Vernon, she is also survived by her brother: Leland Schilling; a sister: Ganell Lamb; sister-in-law: Charlene Schilling; brothers-in-law: Walt Kern, Don Kern, Tom Kern, David Kern, Roger Kern, and Cork Kern; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Ed and Dora Schilling, sister: Marilyn Zimmerman, three brothers: John Schilling, Ronnie Schilling, and Gale Schilling, sister-in-law: Gloria Schilling, and mother and father-in-law: C.E. and Josie Kern.
Nancy worked as a bookkeeper. Nancy and Joe lived in Florida for several years and they decided to move back to the area. Nancy loved traveling with her husband all over the United States. Everywhere they traveled, they would always have a wonderful story to tell their family and friends. She was also an avid cross stitcher. Nancy cherished the time she spent with her husband, family, friends, and her beloved cat: Lucy.
Per Nancy's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and no public services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Joe Kern and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to Nancy's Family.
