Nancy Lou Knipfel, of Schoolcraft passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12th, 2025, at the age of 76. With a heart full of love and a spirit radiating positivity, Nancy touched the lives of many through her kindness and warmth.
She received her education through Schoolcraft Community Schools, and it was during her teenage years that she experienced a fateful moment. At the age of 16, Nancy met the love of her life, Jimmy Knipfel, on a blind date—a meeting that set the foundation for a beautiful partnership. Their love blossomed and culminated in a joyous marriage on July 11, 1969, a proud accomplishment that she cherished deeply alongside her family.
For over 20 years, Nancy dedicated herself to the bakery department of Harding’s Grocery Store at their Woodbridge location. Her commitment to her work was evident, as she brought joy not only through her baking but also by nurturing relationships with her colleagues and customers alike.
Nancy's love for animals was a defining characteristic of her life. From nurturing cats to tending to a variety of birds—outdoor bird, hummingbirds, and domestic pets—she found true joy in caring for all living creatures. Her home was a sanctuary for her feathered friends, exemplifying the compassion that she extended throughout her life.
Nancy's legacy is one of warmth, love, and an optimistic outlook on life. She was known for her loving nature and her ability to find beauty in everyday moments. She will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents: Claude and Deborah Schippers; one sister: Susan Smith; and two brothers: David and Don Schippers.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years: Jimmy; two sons: Claude “Tom” Schippers, of Kalamazoo; Steve Knipfel, of Portage; two grandchildren: Christopher (Na’Tasha) Schippers, of St. Louis, MI; Aaron Schippers, of NC; and five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister: Lorraine Dimmick, of Schoolcraft; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation has taken place, and no services are scheduled at this time.
