Nancy Gale Lowder, age 79, of New London, NC, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in New London. Born on June 3, 1946, in North Carolina, she was the cherished daughter of the late Everette McCarn and the late Josephine McCarn. Nancy was preceded in death by her brother David McCarn.
Nancy was a devoted educator who began her teaching journey as a substitute teacher in Albemarle City Schools. Her passion for learning and commitment to her students led her to a full-time position as a middle school math teacher at Badin Elementary School, where she made a lasting impact on countless students and their families. She also taught algebra at Greystone High School and North Rowan Middle School.
An avid reader, Nancy enjoyed quiet mornings with her dog Lexi, birdwatching, a good book and a challenging Sudoku puzzle. Together with her husband Myron, she spent the past twelve years exploring the world.
Known for her sense of style, Nancy loved shopping with her grandchildren. Her talent for creating a warm, inviting home was shown in her beautiful decorations and the cozy atmosphere she created for family gatherings. Nancy especially loved preparing her family’s secret spaghetti sauce from Italy, bringing everyone together for meals around the kitchen table.
Nancy’s legacy lives on through her loving family: her devoted husband, Myron Lowder of New London; sons Doug (Traci) Lowder and Matthew (Rinnette) Lowder; grandsons Graham Lowder and Adam Lowder; granddaughters Adelaide Lowder, Haynes Lowder, and Megan Lowder. She will be remembered for her faith, kindness, generosity, and the joy she brought to all who knew her.
A memorial service to honor Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, December 6th, at 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, officiated by Pastor Leslie Wray. Psalm 23 was a passage she frequently recited at night and will be included in her service. We kindly ask that whenever you read this passage, you remember her with love and respect.
Memorials may be made in Nancy’s memory to a charity of your choice.
