Nancy Lee (Hauck) McCaskell, 89, of Apache Junction, AZ passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024 in her home. Nancy was born April 22, 1934 in De Smet, SD to Maurice “Morey” and Alta (Whalen) Hauck. Nancy grew up in De Smet and graduated from De Smet High School in 1951. Soon after, she traveled to Fort Richardson, Alaska where she married her sweetheart Ronald B. McCaskell on October 6, 1951. Eventually, after having five children and moving back to South Dakota, Nancy received an Associates Degree from Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. One more child was born and then Nancy began teaching in a rural school near Lake Andes, SD, where she taught for seven years while also owning and running the Blue Dog Inn, a popular music venue in Waubay, SD. The family then moved to Browns Valley, MN, and later, to Dilworth, MN in 1977. Nancy worked in the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Elementary School library for 16 years before retiring from education. She then began working in her daughter Pat’s embroidery shop alongside various family members for several years before retiring for good in 2009. She moved to Superstition Buttes in Apache Junction, AZ in 2016 with her oldest daughter, where she spent her days sewing and painting and spending time with friends and visiting family members.
She is survived by four daughters, Jean Stuart, Apache Junction, AZ, Pat (Rick) Krone, Detroit Lakes, MN, Teri (Kerry Kambel) Krone, Moorhead, MN, Kay (Scott) Anderson, Fairmont, ND; one son, Tim (Patti Krininger) McCaskell, Lake Bronson, MN; ten grandchildren, Angela, Shane, Jason, Tanner, Toby, Chadd, Shannon, Ryan, Jaci and Joe, and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Phil McCaskell, and her grandson Brad.
