Nancy Newson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel on Dec. 4, 2025.
Nancy Carol Newson, age 65 of Mount Gilead, passed away on December 3, 2025 at her home.
She was born on January 23, 1960 to William "Bill" and Effie (Keen) Stump in Grundy, VA. She graduated from Mount Gilead High School, and later attended Knox Community College, where she got her Medical Assistant Certification. She worked as an M.A. for many years for OhioHealth, and after retiring, she worked as a driving instructor.
Nancy had a creative mind, and loved to make things. She could sew hats, shirts, and jackets, made cups and Christmas bulbs, and so many other things. She enjoyed gardening and canning, and loved to watch the hummingbirds and butterflies in her garden. Feeding the squirrels also brought her joy.
She was one hell of a mom. She made sure to always tell her kids she loved them, and "I love you more, I win," and was the best wife to her husband of 48 years, Stanley M. Newson. They spent decades together, raising some great kids, and making so many memories. Her most cherished role was being a Mamaw to her grandkids. She never missed a ballgame, always cheering in support, and was there whenever and wherever she was needed.
All those that met her, loved her. She was a talker, and always gave you a hug, whether you were family, if she'd known you for years, or just a few minutes. She was a mom and grandma to all the people she'd met. She would, however, give you hell if you were mean or rude.
Left to cherish Nancy's memory is the love of her life, husband: Stanley M. Newson; children: Stan M. Newson Jr (Michelle), Megan (Jason) Brooke Bateman, Ethan (Lyndsey) Newson, and Jenna (Tim Foster) Hughes; grandchildren: Aydyn Newson, Mason Hughes, Haedyn Hughes, Addy Brown, Dalis Hughes, Jasyn Newson, Cole Newson, and Everly Newson; step-grandchildren: Efren, Greg, Giselle, and Pierson; father, Bill Stump; and sister, Melissa (Joe) Stevenson. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Effie Stump; and step-grandchild, Vanessa.
