Nancy Lou Oslie (Hanson) passed away peacefully surrounded by children Wayne, Roberta, Gary and granddaughter Tara on Wednesday September 18, 2024 at her home Flagstone Senior Living Center where she has been living for the last 12 years.
Nancy was born on May 3, 1935 to mother Marie Angie (Huston) and father David Edgar Hanson. After the tragic death of her mother when she was 4 years old, Nancy went through a very difficult time in her young life living with a relative until being adopted by Ella and Herb Hanson.
Nancy lived happily with her adoptive parents in Minneapolis until her marriage to Robert E. Grover in 1953. They had four children together and raised them in their Minneapolis home, moving to Richfield in 1962. After their divorce in 1970 she married Wilmer P. Reeves in 1973. They had a daughter together. They lived in Eden Prairie for three years, then moving to Rockford Minnesota where they lived until divorced in 1982. Nancy and her new husband Roger M. Oslie were married in 1982. Roger and Nancy lived initially in Grapevine Texas, then moving back to Shakopee Minnesota, and finally moving to Delta Colorado in 1991 after Roger retired. She loved her house in Delta which was close to her two daughters and one son, where she could have horses, and overlooked several mountain ranges. Roger passed away in 1997. She continued to live in Delta until suffering a stroke in 2012 which left her unable to move the right side of her body. With her consent, her children moved her to Castle Ridge Senior Care in Eden Prairie Minnesota later in 2012. Presbyterian Homes built the new facility Flagstone Senior Living Center next door and Nancy moved from Castle Ridge to Flagstone where she enjoyed the rest of her life.
At Flagstone she engaged in many of the activities that were offered. She took up painting, bell chime band, drum band, trivia, resident council, bible study, poker, exercise group, she was in plays, choir, attended church service and played cribbage every Friday. By far her most favorite activity was bingo! She was the Queen of Bingo winning many games and taking stuffed animals as a prize. She enjoyed giving away the stuffed animals to children in need. She would give them to family members' children. Anyone new coming into Flagstone would be greeted by her and then asked if they have any kids or grandkids that needed a stuffed animal.
Nancy loved the Minnesota Vikings. A relative of a Vikings player who worked at Flagstone would watch the games with Nancy. He gave her an official Vikings jersey which she'd wear along with other Vikings regalia to cheer on her team.
Nancy was proud of taking in and raising about 50 foster kids of all ages over about 15 years. On behalf of 'Foster Parents of Hennepin County' she attended conferences in New York and in Detroit.
Nancy had a lifelong love of horses and she and Roberta bought their first horse named Casey in 1970. While living in Colorado, she and her two daughters traveled all over Colorado and Utah to horse shows accompanied by at least two of her four jack Russel dogs. She enjoyed watching horse racing, especially the Kentucky Derby, and was known to occasionally make a wager.
Nancy loved traveling and visited places around the US including throughout the southwest and Hawaii, and internationally including Spain, England and Jamaica.
She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and spoke some Norwegian and made tasty lefse.
Her favorite Bible verse was 1st Corinthians 15:4 "On the third day Jesus He rose again from the dead" and the Apostles' creed. Her favorite song was "Near to the heart of God".
Nancy's superpower was her great ability to accept and adjust to the many challenges and difficulties in life and always keep a positive attitude. To the very end she had an intense will to live and lived her life fully with love for her family, friends and her Lutheran faith.
Nancy is survived by her children Wayne (Richelle), Roberta, Gary (Jean), Cynthia
(Rod); grandchildren Tara (Mike), Mike, Elizabeth (Keith), Michelle, Ross, Kobi, Taton (Raven), Aubry, Cotton; 8 great grandchildren, extended family, and all her many friends at Flagstone whom she loved dearly.
Preceding her in death is son John T. Grover; husband Roger M. Oslie and former husbands Robert E. Grover and Wilmer P. Reaves.
Funeral service and internment at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Hanover, MN. Visitation begins at 10 AM with a service 11 AM on October 11th, 2024.
