NANCY LEE PHELPS
April 3, 1935 ˜ October 3, 2023
Longtime
Vancouver, WA, resident Nancy Lee Phelps, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 3, 2023, surrounded by her children.
Nancy was born in Dayton, KY, the oldest child of Harold and Grace Haglage. She spent much of her childhood and young adult years in
Nashville, TN, where she attended St. Bernard’s Academy. After graduation, Nancy began working at the TV station that was literally located in her backyard, fueling what would become a lifelong interest in movies and television. During her time at the station, she worked at jobs ranging from switchboard operator to live commercial hand model.
In 1964, she married George Phelps of
Missoula, MT, and moved to a northern climate for the first time in her life. In 1978, they moved to Vancouver. Together they had three children, Kimberly, Carolyn and Kiehl. She was immensely proud of all of them and would attend as many of their activities and milestone events as she possibly could.
Nancy had a passion for music which she shared with her kids. The home was frequently filled with the sounds of piano, drums, and singing. Nancy spent many happy years singing with the Sweet Adelines, Vancouver Touch of Class Chorale, and the First Congregational Church choir, where she was an active member for many decades.
Everyone who knew Nancy knew how much she loved the sport of golf. Although she wasn’t a player herself, she was a dedicated fan who followed her favorite players and watched tournaments every week. She also loved playing cards with family and doing the daily crossword puzzle. She will always be remembered for her big smile, generous heart and her deep love of family.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George. She leaves behind her daughters, Kimberly (Dan) Baker and Carolyn (Louis) Phelps; and son, Kiehl (Brandy) Phelps; two grandchildren, Emily and Christopher Phelps; siblings, Thomas Haglage of Lexington, KY, Jerome Haglage of
Nashville, TN, and Judith Thissen of Oklahoma City, OK.
A private celebration of life is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest making a donation to the
charity of your choice. You are invited to share memories of Nancy at
