Nancy Ross Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hillside Chapel, Inc. on Dec. 17, 2025.
Nancy Jean Ross (née Morris), born on April 16, 1935, in Tacoma, Washington, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025, in West Linn, Oregon. She was 90 years old.

Nancy dedicated her life to nurturing others-through her family, her faith, and her work. For many years, she served as the Assistant Librarian and Story Teller at Battin Elementary School in Southeast Portland. In this role, she brought stories to life for generations of children, fostering a love of reading and imagination that left a lasting impression on countless young minds. She also was a storyteller at the End of the Oregon Trail center in Oregon City for many years.

Her deep faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She demonstrated unwavering faith, strength, resilience and grace, trusting in Christ through every obstacle. Her generosity was a reflection of Christ's love, always ready with a helping hand or a comforting word for anyone in need. Nancy was a devoted member of West Linn First Baptist Church, which later became New Life Church. Over the years, she served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher and played an active role in Women's Ministries. She led prayer groups and Bible studies with unwavering commitment and never hesitated to share her testimony or speak openly about her beliefs. Her spiritual strength and gracious heart were evident to all who knew her.

Nancy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Porter Ross. Together they built a family rooted in love and resilience. She is survived by her sister Carol Caswell; her brother Steve Morris; and her four sons: Jeff Ross, Merle Ross, Bryan Ross, and Dave Ross, along with their respective spouses. Her legacy continues through 27 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild-a testament to the enduring bonds of family she helped cultivate.

Throughout her life, Nancy touched many people with her warmth and generosity. She will be remembered as a strong Christian woman whose loving presence enriched the lives of those around her.

Although Nancy is no longer with us, we take comfort in the resurrection and eternal life through Jesus Christ. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.

I just found out she passed today when I called to schedule another visit to her in hospice as I hadn't known till today.
I visited with her the weekend before Thanksgiving weekend when a friend of hers contacted me to let me know that she was in hospice.
Was hoping that I could have seen her again but glad I saw her when I did as it had been some years, like since just before the pandemic, before I last saw her, and we had a nice visit and I was able to tell her that I loved her so I'm glad I got that chance, and only a couple weeks before she passed.
I met Nancy when she was working in the copy room at Rex Putnam High School when I went there back in the late 90s and early 2000s and she became like a surrogate grandma to me and we'd stayed in touched and she'd encouraged me and supported me through the years, especially in my writing, and I even included her in my acknowledgements in my first book of poetry, Windows & Stars, which I read to her from when I visited her in hospice.
I hope she's at peace now and I am glad to have known her as long as I did.
