Nancy L. (Smith) Schimp, 84, of Belmond passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023 at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 10:30 AM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond, with Pastor Jim Gochenouer officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Monday, August 14, 2023, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond.
Nancy Lou, daughter of William and Ina (Berhow) Smith, was born on August 9, 1939 in Belmond. She lived her whole life in Belmond. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1957.
On September 20, 1958, Nancy was united in marriage to Larry Schimp at Trinity Lutheran Church in Belmond. The couple made their home in Belmond where they raised their two sons, Mike and Marty. Nancy worked at the Mello-Maid. She later worked at P&G Grocery and Deli and worked alongside Larry at Producers Feed and Supply until their retirement.
Nancy was very giving, unselfish and always thought of doing what made others happy. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who put her family's needs before her own. Nancy loved spending time with her family and often shared her baked treats with them. She supported her sons and grandchildren in their sports or other activities.
Nancy enjoyed visiting, playing cards, doing puzzles, or having coffee with friends. She cherished her friendships she made at the retirement center.
Nancy is survived by her sons Mike (Tammy) Schimp of Hampton and Marty (Kim) Schimp of Williams; grandchildren Bryce Schimp (Nikki) and their son Rhett, Molly (Jake) Marlin and their children McCoy and Blake, Ryan Schimp (special friend Allie), Eric (Brianna) Schimp and their children Nora and Oliver, and Kevin (Liana) Schimp and their baby boy expected in December; sister Sharon (Larry) McMurray; sisters-in-law Carol Smith and Ellen Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Larry Schimp; parents Bill and Ina Smith; brothers Richard 'Dick' Smith, Roger 'Joe' Smith, and Alvie Smith; father-in-law Edward 'Ed' Schimp; mother-in-law Mollie Schimp; and step-father-in-law Ernest 'Ernie' Kalkwarf.
