Nancy Shepardson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Welch Funeral Home - Marks Chapel on Aug. 12, 2025.
Nancy Akiko Shepardson, 78, of Heathsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Nancy was born on December 11, 1946, in Hawaii, to Matsue and Herbert Yoshimura. After her father's passing, her mother later married James Takayesu, "dad", who raised Nancy as his own. As part of a proud military family, her childhood spanned the globe, taking her to Japan, Spain, and various places across the United States.

In 1967, Nancy married the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Shepardson. Together, they built a beautiful family and a marriage rooted in loyalty, humor, and care. For 58 years, they were each other's greatest support and joy.

Nancy worked as a computer specialist for the United States Army, retiring in 1993. Never one to stay idle, she filled her days with volunteering, traveling, crafting, and playing bingo whenever she could find a game. An active member of the Women of the Moose, Nancy loved being part of a community. At the age of 60, her life changed after a serious medical event, but through every challenge, she was surrounded by love-especially from her devoted husband, who cared for her with unmatched dedication.

Nancy is survived by her daughters, Cherie (Mark) Bates, Tina (Chris) Haas, and Leah (James) Stallings; ten grandchildren: Tyson, Jordan, Ashley, Jacob, Erica, Alexis, Kayla, Casey, Kolton, and Alana; seven great-grandchildren: Jackson, Grayson, Brooks, Nolan, Ryleigh, Hudson and August; sister, June (Randy) Stewart; brother, James (Becky) Takayesu; as well as many devoted nieces, nephews, a large extended family, friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and faith. Even in our grief, we are comforted knowing she is in heaven with Jesus - her body healed, her speech restored, and she is reunited with loved ones who went before her.

The family would like to thank all the friends, family and caregivers who have provided physical and emotional support, meals, and kind words throughout this battle.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on September 6, 2025. Details to follow.
