Nancy Jane Simmons, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 18, 2025, at the Chateau of Batesville in Batesville, IN. She was born on July 22, 1937 in Allendale, IL, and was the daughter of William "Bus" and Ethel (Brockett) Chapman.
Nancy was a cheerleader at Allendale, where she met her high school sweetheart, Lyman "Sid" Simmons, who played on the basketball team. They were married on April 23, 1959. They eventually moved to Union Grove, WI and later to the place they resided in Greens Fork, IN. They spent 59 years together until his death on June 7, 2018.
She had a strong Christian faith and enjoyed going to Bible Study with her friends. Nancy participated in ECHO, the Evening Christian Homemakers Organization at Sugar Grove Church, as well. She was a homemaker and was most known for her cookie baking and bread-making talents. In her younger years, she loved to do needlepoint and would give away many of her talented works to her family and friends. Nancy appreciated the little beauties in nature, especially watching the hummingbirds. Her favorite sport was basketball, where she enjoyed watching it either on TV or as a spectator in the stands. But above all of this, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (Gigi) who loved spending time with her family. She will truly be missed.
She is survived by her son Greg (Theresa) Simmons of Batesville, IN; sister Maxine Pemberton of Aiken, South Carolina; grandchildren Lee Simmons, Hannah (John) Marinakes, Adam (Maureen) Springmeyer, and Andrew (Kristen) Springmeyer; and great-grandchildren Liam and Helena Marinakes and Emmitt, Brooklyn, and Lawrence Springmeyer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her son, Sidney Scott Simmons.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28th from 4-7pm at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, IN. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, April 29th at Sugar Grove Community Church in Greens Fork, IN, with a viewing from 10-11am followed by the funeral service at 11am. Burial will take place at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be given to the Batesville Athletic Boosters or to the Sugar Grove Community Church by bringing to the services or mailing to Meyers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 202, Batesville, IN 47006.
The family would especially like to thank the Chateau of Batesville, where Nancy lived for the past few years. She truly loved the wonderful staff who took such good care of her and the residents who resided there.
