Nancy Skramstad Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Nov. 7 to Nov. 8, 2022.
Nancy Ann Skramstad "Nance" (nee Milewski), 62, of Collingswood, NJ passed away on November 6, 2022, after a long and hard-fought battle with a rare variant of Alzheimer's.

Nancy was born on April 22, 1960 to Joseph and Maria Milewski in Camden, NJ. She grew up in Gloucester, NJ, where she cherished spending time with her Italian and Polish family, helping at the family nursery, and enjoying large family dinners every Sunday.

Nancy attended Mount Saint Mary's College and Seminary in Emmitsburg, MD. At the Mount, Nancy met lifelong friends and her future husband, developed an enthusiasm for running, and pursued her passions for reading and learning about the world through her study of English and History.

After college, Nancy and her husband lived in Los Angeles, Norway, New Jersey, and Massachusetts and had two daughters, Anne and Christina - her "bushy-boos". Nancy fell in love with being a Mom and spread her devotion to motherhood through mothering groups she hosted at her home and through Jewish Family & Children's Service.

Nancy's love for life took her all over the world, but she felt most at home in Cambridge, MA where she frequented Club Passim, dined at Casablanca, and attended the Revels every Christmas. She spent her summers in Ocean City, NJ hosting family and friends for extended stays, reading voraciously on 4th Street beach, and enjoying Kohr Brothers while strolling on the boardwalk. Nancy's passion for running led her to finish multiple marathons and helped her to navigate her illness as she took pleasure in long walks through her neighborhood. Most of all, Nance loved her children and grandchildren, with whom she shared her love of music, fantastic taste in movies, and playful sense of humor. Her warm laughter and kindness will help guide her daughters and grandchildren as they begin their next stage of life without her. Nancy was known for her close friendships and compassionate love for everyone she knew. Her family meant the world to her and she fostered that connection through frequent trips to Pennsylvania to visit her siblings. She wanted her family and friends to know she loved them deeply.

Nancy leaves behind her daughters Anne (Kevin) Killelea and Christina Skramstad (Glenn Gallagher), her beloved grandchildren Mae, Norah, and Matty Killelea, her siblings Joe, Patti, and Cathy, and her nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy's daughters request any donations be made to Hilarity for Charity, which supports the caregivers of people with dementia-related illnesses.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at Keefe Funeral Home at 2175 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02140. There will be a wake from 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM with a service to follow.

My dear cousin Nancy...as I re-read these tributes I am so heartbroken. You were such a beautiful, fun and wonderful cousin. Though we did not get to see each other often, I truly loved you and thought the world of you growing up. I loved our time we got to spend in Norway and will always treasure those moments. Your daughters are wonderful young ladies and you were a fantastic mother to them both. I think of you often. May you be at peace.

I just read this beautiful tribute again. My heart aches for her, especially as the seasons change. OC will not feel the same without her. She was a rock for so many and is missed every single day. How I wish she was here to share every track and cross country meet with me and my girls. I need everything that she was on this earth. It still doesn't feel real. Thinking of you forever. XO

I will always cherish the kind gentle caring spirit that was Nancy´s heart, evident in her smile and her laughter. The bond to family that made her life a blessing to us!
I have letters that Tommy saved all the years, from Nancy when he was far from home that kept him connected during the most difficult time in his life always reminding him of how special and deep their connection was.
Rest in peace Nancy. Anne and Christina know that love is forever with you. A legacy that you carry And pass on with the love and joy given you as only a mother can.
All my love and deepest condolences.

I am so sorry to hear about Nancy, she was such a kind, compassionate and beautiful person, my very sincere condolences to her family. We were good friends in highschool and navigated the 70's together trying to figure out guys, music(Beach boys vs Beatles ),and life in general. Whenever we got together later in life the years just melted away and we could really talk like no time had passed. I will always remember her easy laugh , smile and good sense of humor, I can see her on the beach right now with that smile. You will be so missed by your friends and family and I hope you have found peace and tranquility. Love you always Nance

Nancy and I met about 2 years ago, I was one of her caregivers. We shared so many laughs, and long late night conversations. She was truly a blessing and loved her family and friends so much. I will cherish our time together, such an amazing woman. She cherished her daughters and grandchildren and her siblings. Her face lit up with every conversation about them.
