New Ipswich, NH - Nancy Catherine Somero, 94, of New Ipswich, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, at Scott-Farrar in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Born on December 29, 1930 in Peterborough, NH, she was the cherished daughter of Waino Tastula and Lillian (Maki) Tastula.

In her teens, Nancy moved with her family to Quincy, Massachusetts, where she graduated from North Quincy High in 1948. On January 16, 1949, she married Martin Somero, and together they settled in New Ipswich, NH, where they raised their family. Nancy lived in New Ipswich for most of her life, creating a warm and loving home filled with faith, laughter, and beauty, until she moved to Scott-Farrar in Peterborough in 2019.

A lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in New Ipswich, Nancy's faith in Jesus Christ her Savor guided her life. She was an active participant in her church community, finding joy in worship and service.

Nancy's passion for horses was a cornerstone of her life. From a young age, she was captivated by their grace and spirit, owning horses for most of her years and sharing this love with her family and friends. Her connection to horses reflected her own strength and gentle nature. Equally, Nancy had a remarkable gift for gardening. Her gardens were a vibrant testament to her skill and love for nurturing life, filled with colorful flowers and thriving plants that brought joy to all who saw them. She spent countless hours tending her garden, creating a sanctuary that reflected her care and creativity.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Tastula of Fort Myers, Florida; her sons, Doug Somero (Emma) of Yacolt, Washington, Robin Somero of Sharon, New Hampshire, Lee Somero (Diane) of South Carolina, and Jay Somero (Katie) of South Carolina; her daughters, Beverly Salo, Jayne Somero (Paul), and Brenda Sikkila (David); 52 grandchildren, 184 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren. Nancy was predeceased by her parents, Waino and Lillian Tastula; her husband, Martin Somero; her brother, Ronald Tastula; her son-in-law, David Salo.

A memorial service will be held at the Apostolic Lutheran Church at 117 Goen Rd, New Ipswich, NH 03071, on Monday April 28th viewing at 10:00AM, service at 11:00AM, burial following the service at Central Cemetery in New Ipswich.
